Event Description: Join Atlanta’s Central Congregational United Church of Christ and Docomomo Georgia for a reception, a talk about the work of Georgia Architect Kenneth Johnson, and a tour of the Church, one of Johnson’s most remarkable designs. Johnson was the designer of a number of notable structures in Atlanta, including the recently demolished Moreland Avenue C & S Branch Bank.
Prior to the tour, architectural historian Robert Craig will provide an overview of other work that was underway in Atlanta during Johnson’s career to provide a context for understanding his work, followed by a Docomomo US presentation of Johnson’s work. Central Congregational will provide an introduction to the Church, followed by a guided tour of the facility, including a visit to the dramatic sanctuary space.
