DOCOMOMO US, Georgia Chapter, Inc. is a regional society promoting research, scholarship, and education concerning the Modern Movement, and the conservation of the buildings, landscape, and built environment of the Modern Movement. The society provides a venue for the interchange of ideas among architectural historians, architects, preservationists, and others interested in the Modern built environment and its preservation. To further this purpose, local meetings, exhibitions, publications, and advocacy are encouraged. Consistent with this Purpose, cooperation is encouraged between DOCOMOMO US, GEORGIA CHAPTER and both DOCOMOMO-US and DOCOMOMO-International, as well as with other organizations in the region with mutually reinforcing goals.

DOCOMOMO Georgia hopes to increase public and professional awareness of Georgia’s Modern Heritage through organized events and tours, development of useful Internet resources, electronic mailing lists, ongoing documentation, and outreach to other preservation organizations and professional groups.

Documentation of Georgia’s existing Modern resources will assist preservation efforts. DOCOMOMO Georgia has begun compilation of statewide inventory of these resources. This growing registry documents important districts, buildings, landscapes, interiors, and public art. The registry may assist with nomination of important resources to the national DOCOMOMO Registry.
